We collect nothing.
ScrollCut is built on a simple principle — your data is yours. We don't collect it, store it, share it, or sell it. Ever.
- All data stays on your device — Chrome's local storage only
- No servers. No databases. No accounts.
- We never see your usage stats, limits, or "why" text
- No analytics, no tracking, no third-party scripts
- Uninstalling the extension deletes everything instantly
What data we collect
None. ScrollCut does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers.
The extension stores the following information locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API:
· Time spent on Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts today
· Your optional "why I'm limiting this" reminder text
· Whether the extension is enabled or disabled
· Daily reset timestamps
This data never leaves your browser. It is not accessible to us or anyone else.
How the extension works
ScrollCut runs entirely within your browser. When you visit Instagram Reels (instagram.com/reels) or YouTube Shorts (youtube.com/shorts), the extension:
Tracks how long videos play using a local timer. When your daily limit is reached, it shows a blocker screen. All of this happens on your device — no network requests are made to any ScrollCut server.
The extension loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com) for display purposes. This is a standard browser request, subject to Google's own privacy policy.
Permissions we request
ScrollCut requests the following Chrome permissions and here is exactly why:
· alarms — to reset your daily counter at midnight
· tabs — to detect which site you're on
· scripting — to show the blocker screen when your limit is hit
· host permissions (instagram.com, youtube.com) — to track time only on these two sites
We do not request access to your browsing history, cookies, passwords, or any other sensitive information.
Third parties
ScrollCut does not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any data to share.
There are no analytics scripts, no crash reporting tools, no advertising SDKs, and no monetization tracking of any kind embedded in this extension.
Data deletion
To delete all data stored by ScrollCut, simply uninstall the extension from Chrome. All locally stored data is automatically removed by the browser upon uninstall.
You can also manually reset today's usage at any time using the "Reset today's time" button in the extension popup.
Children's privacy
ScrollCut does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no personal data whatsoever, there is no special risk to children's privacy.
Changes to this policy
If we ever update this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We will never introduce data collection without clearly communicating it.
